What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, powerful, hands-on healing practice. It is based on a specific attunement process in which ancient mantras and symbols are used to amplify the flow of life force energy, and to open up the inner healing channel. Reiki is a simple stress-reduction technique that promotes healing.

Reiki, reputed to originate from a Tibetan form of healing through touch, was developed as it is now known by a Japanese physician and Christian scholar, Dr Mikeo Usui, in the late 1800's, after exhaustive studies around the world, and with Buddhist monks in Japanese monasteries.

Reiki can be easily learned as a self-help technique. To complete a Reiki course is to begin a lifetime journey of self-responsibility (according to Reiki Master Bronwen Steine). There are three stages of learning, but it is not necessary to go beyond the first level to gain lifelong personal benefits.

At the core of each course is an attunement process that enables the energy to enter the body and flow through its natural energy fields. It is not a belief system or religion, merely a willingness to heal and be healed. Reiki is said to assist and heal on an emotional, physical and spiritual level.

As with many modalities, each body organ or system is said to have a corresponding emotion. Reiki eases blocked energy caused by negative emotions, cleanses the body of poisons, and relaxes and rejuvenates the entire system. It is a gentle, non-invasive form of healing that can be used on animals, plants, babies & children.

Practitioners say that in terminally ill patients, the spiritual assistance achieved during Reiki has helped them pass on with greater sense of peace & completion.

Reiki can be used for chronic and acute illnesses, and in conjunction with other therapies, boosting the immune system and helping to fight even serious problems such as heart disease or cancer. It can also be used to help stress-related conditions including headaches, back pain, insomnia, skin problems and emotional distress. Reiki treatments often bring greater mental clarity and intuition, and aid meditation.
